Meet Vix

  • Early Life

Growing up on the family dairy farm led to a love of nature and the outdoors from a young age. But politics had to wait - it wasn’t until she was in her mid 30s and a parent of 3 young boys that Vix understood that the environmental and social challenges we face are the result of persistent failures of political leadership and the lack of will to tackle them to safeguard our future. After waiting for the grown-ups to take charge, she realised that she was a grown up - and was proud to be selected to stand in the 2015 General Election for the Green Party on the Isle of Wight.

  • Gaining momentum

Since 2015 the Green vote on the Isle of Wight in successive General Elections has grown to be one of the strongest in the whole country. The Isle of Wight has been a target seat for the Green Party in 2017 and 2019 - and Vix has reached national recognition. Due to her experience as a teacher and campaigner she was selected as the Green Party national spokesperson for education back in 2016 and has worked hard to continue in this role - which involves speaking on TV, radio and at conferences around the country. She has also served on the national executive as Policy Development Coordinator (2020-23)

  • Since 2019

Vix is a secondary school teacher (History, Geology, Classics) and works with young people who travel from all across the Isle of Wight. Outside of her day job she volunteers for a number of organisations - including local theatre, carnivals, the Historical Association, the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, Story Festival and Ventnor Fringe. During the covid pandemic she was proud to be a regular NHS volunteer at the Riverside Vaccination Centre (pictured). In addition Vix serves as an elected community councillor and chairs the planning committee. She enjoys walking, cycling - and the chaos of a household full of teenagers and their friends!
